An Overview about Printed Circuit Board Assembly

Manufacturing printed circuit board is not a cakewalk. However, as the printed circuit board assembly is used across various industries, it is must for every business owner to buy the PCB assembly from professional firms. It is indeed a time consuming procedure to develop your own assembly. PCB assembly includes the soldering of printed circuit board with the electronic components. Thus, the circuit board which hasn’t been assembled is called PCB while the ones having soldered components are called Printed Circuit Board Assembly. Circuit board assembly is quite different than circuit board manufacturing. In case of PCB manufacturing, a variety of processes are involved including PCB design and creating the prototype. Thus, before the board is ready to use, it involves the soldering of various components.

Thus, as soon as the PCB is made, electronic components are attached to it to make it functional. This is known as PCB assembly. The construction is done by using two methods namely, Through-Hole Construction and Surface-Mount Construction. In both the kinds of construction, the leads of components are electrically as well as mechanically fixed to the PCB with the help of molten metal solder. Thus, depending on the actual volume of the boards which are to be assembled, the soldering method is adopted. In case the production quantity is to be developed for small volume prototypes, soldering is done by hands. However, if production of large volumes is required then machines are used for soldering.
